Cap'n RotnClaw The latest issue of Hi Fructose is hitting stands with a new shot that I'm very happy about. No only was it a lot of fun to produce, but it also gave me a chance to shoot some of the brilliant work of Greg "Craola" Simkins. Greg is a surrealist painter, inspired by "elements from pop culture, the old masters, nature, carnival kitsch, and most importantly, a warped imagination." Brought to toy-life by the fine folks at STRANGEco, Cap'n RotnClaw perfectly illustrates Greg's style...part crab, part Captain Hook, and sometimes even part elephant. You'll have to check out that last one for yourself. Even though I ended up soaked, with sand in new and interesting places, the shoot was a blast. It's not everyday that I get to see the ocean parted by someone posing for a snapshot, revealing the Cap'n. It gives me great pleasure to announce that two of my prints will be up for auction at Phillips de Pury in New York on October 25th. Sympathy for the Record Industry and Hotel Room will be offered alongside an impressive variety of toy art and pop art pieces. What excites me most about the sale is the continuing acceptance and acknowledgment of the Art-Toy movement by the fine art establishment. Next thing you know, one of us is going to end up in the New York Times Sunday Magazine. Hope
you enjoy,
