Ginchy

Ginchy

Summer is definitely here, and it's a time of year when Southern California subcultures are at their best. Hot Rod shows, scooter rallies, drive-ins, and surfing fill up the day while beach bonfires, tiki bars, and coffee shops woo the crowds at night. The music is fresh, the drinks are cold, and there is more than enough of both to go around.

I'm very excited to announce a collaboration inspired by the heart of Los Angeles that never fades with the coming and going of fads. Working to create a series for the Mimobot line of art-toys/USB flash drives, a unique group came together to create the "Ginchy" project. Artist and cartoonist Lili Chin designed the characters and interface, DJ and recent Los Angeles transplant Phofo provided the soundtrack, and I'm producing a photo series of the characters on their adventures across the city. The series and soundtrack will come loaded on the USB flash drive inside each figure. You only have to plug them in to see and hear!

They will be released in early Fall, but pre-order now for a special bonus. The first 95 orders will receive a signed, numbered from an edition of 100, 4"x 5" giclée print of "Ramona Bundled Up" in her Protohoodie you see above. I believe half are all ready spoken for, so act fast!!

Can't believe it's all ready been a year, but once again San Diego Comic Con is upon us!! I'm heading down Wednesday for a long weekend of kickin in with the Klingons and hangin with fellow artists and toymakers. If you're down there, I hope you'll come by and say hello at a couple signings:

  • Saturday July 22nd @ 1PM - I'll be at the Hi Fructose booth (#4735) signing copies of the magazine AND the new View-Master® reel!!
  • Saturday July 22nd @ 2:30 - Lili Chin and I will be at the Mimoco booth (#4938) signing postcards of the "Ramona Bundled Up" photo!!

Hope to see you there!
-Brian

P.S. Special thanks to David Holt and Cranky Studios for the supplemental design and programming of the Ginchy digital content.
